BUDDHA BASNYAT

President


Dr. Basnyat obtained his masters in respiratory physiology from the University of Calgary, Canada, and later an Internal Medicine residency from the Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, US. He is the past president of the International Society of Mountain Medicine (ISMM). For over a decade he was a professor of physiology at Institute of Medicine, TU Teaching Hospital. He currently leads the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit- Nepal based at Patan Hospital. His research interest lies in working with young clinicians in the study of high altitude illness and undifferentiated febrile illness in the tropics, both common and neglected problems in Nepal. He also serves as the medical director of Himalaya Rescue Association.

MANIRAJ NEUPANE

Vice President


After graduating from Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, Dr. Neupane studied the cardio-respiratory effects of cooking with biomass fuels in the rural villages of Nepal for his Ph.D. from the University of Munich, Germany. An active member of MMSN from the beginning, he has already worked as a secretary of the society and is now serving as a vice president since 2016. He is the Director of the Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine course and continues to oversee it after starting it in 2011. Dr. Neupane is an Internal Medicine resident at the University of Pittsburgh, US and has interests in mountain medicine, respiratory medicine, and global health.

SUSHIL PANT

Secretary


Dr. Pant graduated from Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu. He is currently working as a resident doctor in Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, USA. After completing the Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine in 2014 he has been working as the coordinator of the course. In the past, he has served as the joint secretary of MMSN. He received a bursary to do a clinical elective rotation in acute general medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University, UK in 2013. Pursuing his interest in high altitude medicine he worked as a medical doctor in Kunde (Hillary) Hospital in the Everest region. His interests are in emergency and wilderness medicine, especially in high altitude physiology and medicine.

SANTOSH BANIYA

Joint Secretary


Dr. Baniya is currently a resident trainee in General Practice and Emergency Medicine (MDGP) at Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu. He completed the Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine, 2016 and the Diploma in Global Health, 2016 from Institute of Medicine, Nepal. He is serving as joint secretary of society since 2016. He has worked as local organizing committee chairperson at XII ISMM World Congress on Mountain Medicine that was held on 21-24 November 2018 in Kathmandu, Nepal. He has worked as a team doctor leading expeditions to high altitude destinations and he continues to do so. His area of interest includes emergency medicine, high altitude medicine, and global health.

KAMAL THAPA

Treasurer


Dr. Thapa is currently working as a General Practioner and Emergency doctor in HAMS hospital, Kathmandu. He completed his Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine in 2012 and International Diploma in Mountain Emergency Medicine in 2014. An active member of MMSN, Dr. Thapa is serving as a treasurer of the society. His area of interests includes emergency medicine, high altitude medicine, and research.

SANJEEV SUDARSHAN BHANDARI

Dr. Bhandari graduated from Maharajgunj Medical Campus, IOM, Kathmandu in 2014 and later completed the Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine 2014. He is currently working as a resident doctor at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, USA. An active member of MMSN from his early days of medical school, he is serving as an executive member of MMSN since 2013. He worked as a medical doctor in Nepal International Clinic and has led a number of high altitude expeditions as a team doctor. He has volunteered for two seasons at the Everest ER clinic at 5500m and at Lake Gosaikunda. His area of interest includes emergency medicine, high-altitude, and wilderness medicine.

PRANAWA KOIRALA

Dr. Koirala graduated from Maharajgunj Medical Campus, IOM, Nepal in 2012. He has completed his residency in Emergency medicine from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He has been serving as an executive member since 2013. He also worked as the course coordinator for the second season of NepDiMM. His areas of interest are emergency medicine, high-altitude medicine, and wilderness medicine.

SUBARNA ADHIKARI

After completing medical school and residency training in orthopedic surgery from Institute of Medicine, Dr. Adhikari worked as an Orthopedic Consulatant at Male, Maldives. An active member of MMSN, and an ECFMG Certified Physician, he completed his Diploma in Mountain Medicine in 2015. He is serving as an executive member of the society since 2016. He worked at the Everest ER in the year 2018 and serves as faculty for the NepDiMM course

PAWAN KARKI

Dr. Karki is a recent graduate from Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, Nepal. He has recently worked in Everest ER 2019 as a volunteer doctor. As an active member of MMSN he has worked as Outdoor Coordinator for "Climbing for fun" program. He led "Pupal Yarsa Fest-Health Camp" for Yarsagumba pickers as a team leader in Pupal, Rukum. He also helped as a research assistant on "Co-morbidities in pilgrims visiting Lake Gosaikunda" in August 2013. He has participated in Oxford Elective Program 2016 in Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University, UK. His areas of interest are internal medicine and mountain medicine.

SUMAN ACHARYA

Dr. Acharya recently graduated from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, IOM. He is currently working as a medical officer in Tokha Primary Health Care Center, Kathmandu. He did his Diploma in Mountain Medicine in 2017. An active member of MMSN, he is working as an executive member of MMSN since 2016 and was an organizing member of the 12th ISMM World Congress on Mountain Medicine 2018. He led the Gosainkunda health camp medical team as a volunteer doctor in 2018. He worked as a medical doctor in Mustang Trail race 2017 and 2018. His areas of interest include critical care medicine, high altitude medicine, public health research, and medical education.

BADRI ARYAL

Dr. Aryal is a recent graduate from Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine, Nepal. He is serving as an executive member of the body since 2016. He has worked in Gosainkunda(4380m) health camp in 2018 and has been actively involved in various MMSN activities. He is currently working as a medical officer in Lunkhu Deurali Primary Health Care Center, Parbat, Nepal. His areas of interest include internal medicine, mountain medicine, research and literature.

Dr. Prasanna Karki

Dr. Karki works as an Intern doctor in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, IOM, Nepal. He is working as "outdoor activities" coordinator since 2019 and oversees 'Let's Climb...Next Level', 'Hiking for Fun and Case Scenarios', 'Cycling for fun', 'Riding the Waves'. His areas of interest are Orthopedic Surgery and high altitude medicine.

Dr. Santosh Timalsina

Coordinator for Chitwan Medical College, Chitwan


Dr. Timalsina is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Chitwan Medical College, Chitwan after completing his MD in Clinical Biochemistry from Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu. He completed Nepalese Diploma in Mountain Medicine in 2012, from Nepal and Diploma in Global Health in 2010 from University of Tampere, Finland. He is currently overseeing the activities of MMSN in Chitwan Medical College. His area of interest is clinico-biochemical research, global health, and high altitude medicine.
